I’ll Try Anything
Well friends, September is here. It seems like only yesterday we were sweating our way through heatwave after heatwave, and now the leaves are turning brown and we have already completed the ceremonial changing of the Prime Minister to ensure a good harvest.
I borrowed this dramatic subject line from an email that I got sent by DuoLingo after trying for another consecutive summer to learn French and losing focus after two days. C’est la vie, as B*witched would say, and I would sadly be unable to understand.
Why am I resorting to the awful hysteria of that most cursed of advertising mascots, the abusive DuoLingo Owl, in order to catch your eye and hopefully make you read even this far? Because, dear subscriber, I am starting a UK TOUR IN UNDER 2 WEEKS and some places 👀 are looking a little thin on the ground *cough BRIGHTON cough* so I wanted to make sure everyone knew I’m on my way, and request that if you are planning to come I can’t tell you how much I appreciate a cheeky little advance purchase.
This tour is something different for me and I’m really excited about it. As a bit of a jack of many trades – folk shows, comedy shows, standing up shows, sitting down shows, full band shows, solo shows – this time I have attempted the impossible and tried to MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY. So this tour is both standing and sitting! It’s both solo and with band! It’s old songs, it’s new songs, and I’m sure I might even attempt to tickle a rib or two.
Combining some dancier standing-only venues with some more civilised arts centres, I’ll be opening the night with a solo set of new stuff, deep cuts, requests, perhaps a surprising cover here and there, and then in the second act welcoming my acclaimed band on stage for a set of the big bangers. Every show will be different and I’m really excited to bring a bit of spontaneity back to the stage.
